After you register for a course you will need to complete the online workshop on the CASI website, in your membership profile.

This needs to be completed before the course. If you have any questions during the online workshop, ask your evaluator during the course.

Who Should Take This Course?

You should take this course if you are a Level 1 instructor with a love of freestyle snowboarding. You should have a desire to introduce new students to snowboarding in the park safely and successfully. You should also be confident and comfortable both communicating and demonstrating in front of a group.

Am I Ready?

The Park Instructor Level 1 standards require you to pass both riding and teaching evaluations. In order to help you achieve success on the course, we suggest you take the following steps in preparation, if they are available to you:

Spend time working as an instructor, honing your presentation and class management skills.
Take a session with a current CASI Park Level 1 Evaluator to get feedback on your riding ability in relation to the technical standard.

You may also take the Park 1 course as a non-testing participant. Participate in the course and improve your teaching and riding skills without participating in the exams. Non-testing participants will not receive the Park 1 certification but at the completion of the course will receive a certificate of participation.

Pre-requisites:

Current CASI Level 1 Instructor
Must be fluent in either English or French
Able to demonstrate comfortable and safe riding skills on intermediate terrain, as well as basic terrain park features.

Description:

The CASI Park Instructor certification course is open to members with a minimum Level 1 Instructor Certification. Candidates on the course will spend time exploring snowboarding technique and teaching methods as they relate to introductory terrain park and freestyle snowboarding.

The Park Instructor course is an introductory course, designed to give successful candidates the skills necessary to introduce students to the terrain park and freestyle snowboarding safely. Progression-based teaching methods, understanding of basic freestyle techniques, as well as lesson planning and effective communication skills will be addressed. Candidates will receive coaching on their snowboarding, as well as feedback on their teaching skills, with the goal of reaching the Park Instructor standard in both of these areas. They will also receive suggestions and strategies for long-term development. The successful candidate is certified to take students into freestyle terrain, and teach introductory / basic manoeuvres on beginner terrain park features.

Courses do not include:

Lift pass
Accomodation
Meals

Course Duration:

2 days totalling a minimum of 12 hours (including evaluations).

When should I book my travel and accomodation?

CASI courses require minimum numbers to run and while most courses do run, some do not. It is therefore very important you do not make any travel arrangements, until the course is confirmed to be happening. Simply registering for a course is not a confirmation that the course will ultimately run.

Do I need to be an instructor first, before taking the Park 1 Instructor Course?

Yes, you’ll need to be a minimum Level 1 instructor.

How good do I have to be to pass the Park Course?

The Park Instructor Level 1 course is aimed at giving you tools to take students into the park for the first time safely. You won’t be hitting the big lines, but will be focusing on basic skills on the small features, and improving your teaching skills. 3 Day Translated Courses

The Level 1 Park Translated Course requires an extra 1 day to allow us to keep the same standards and quality of instruction. As all verbal communication will be translated, this extra days allows time for the evaluators to give all students the same attention they would receive on a 2 day english course.

Who is the translator?

We ensure we use a certified CASI instructor to provide translation. This way, you can be confident they are familiar with the CASI method of teaching and that you will receive accurate translation.

CASI Refund Policy:

Refunds and transfers must be requested in writing via email. Please include your full name, member number, and course date(s) and location(s). Please allow 2 business days for your request to be processed.

For course transfers AND cancellations, the following penalties will be applied:

More than 4 weeks (>28 days) from the start of the program: Cancelation / Transfer fee: No fee
Within 4 weeks (28 days) of the start of the program: Cancelation / Transfer fee: 30% of course fee
Within 3 week (21 days) of the start of the program: Cancelation / Transfer fee: 70% of course fee
Within 2 weeks of the start of the program (or no-show on day of course): Cancelation fee: 100% of course fee (no refund) and no transfers are permitted within this time
The 2 week deadline is due to CASI not allowing new registration 2 weeks before the course

Notes on Refunds AND Transfers:

Transfers are possible only towards the same program, within the same season. If no transfer is possible, the refund policy will automatically apply.
Refunds and transfers requested for medical reasons will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and must be supported by acceptable supporting medical documentation.
JOI reserves the right to cancel any program without prior notice, and will not be responsible for any expenses incurred by the participant. In that event, registration fees will be refunded in full. CASI-ACMS are also not responsible for any expenses incurred.
CASI membership dues are non-refundable for any reason
Refunds will be less the transaction fee, roughly 4%

CASI Member Fees:

CASI member fees must be up to date if you are an existing member.
For any course above Level 1, including re-tests, we can not process your registration if your member fess are not up to date.
You WILL NOT be elible for a refund if you register for a course and have not paid your member fees.
If member fees are not paid and you show up to the course, you will not be able to join.

CASI PARK LEVEL 1 Information

The CASI Level 1 Snowboard Instructor certification course is open to strong intermediate snowboarders, aged 14 years and older. Candidates on the Level 1 Course will spend time exploring snowboarding technique and teaching methods across a variety of venues, both on-snow (up to and including intermediate terrain) and during indoor presentations.

The CASI Level 1 course is an introductory course, designed to give successful candidates the skills necessary to begin their role as a new instructor in the industry. Beginner teaching methods, understanding of basic snowboard technique, as well as lesson planning and effective communication skills will be addressed.
